Position gauge so that the 4 legs are straddling the string and evenly contacting the fretboard. Be sure the probe is directly over the string and fret. Bounce the sliding probe against the string to make sure it’s fully contacting the string, then press the “ZERO” button.Then simply press the sliding probe down until the string contacts the fret. The truss rod typically affects neck curvature from the nut to the 17th fret and this gauge spans that distance perfectly.
